With the development of technology and the strengthening of people’s environmental awareness, more and more yachts are beginning to be built with fiberglass composite panels instead of other traditional materials. So what exactly is the charm of fiberglass composite panels?

Application of Fiberglass Composite Panels on Yachts

There are three types of composite panels commonly used in yachts, namely fiberglass plywood panels, fiberglass honeycomb panels and fiberglass foam panels. They are used in different parts of the yacht because of their excellent performance. From the perspective of specific application parts, fiberglass plywood and fiberglass honeycomb panels are often used to build yacht floors, while fiberglass foam panels can be used to build wall panels, ceilings, etc. on yachts.

Composite panels as yacht construction materials have the following advantages:

  • Lightweight Composite panels can be lighter in weight while achieving the same strength as metal materials. If the yacht is lighter, it can save more energy and increase the speed at the same time. Therefore, fiberglass composite panel is an ideal yacht manufacturing material.
  • Corrosion Resistant As long as the formula design of composite boards is reasonable, they can have good corrosion resistance in acid, alkaline and many harsh environments.
  • Long Service Life The fatigue damage of composite panels starts from the relatively weak fibers and gradually extends to the joint surface. The interface between the matrix and the reinforcing fibers can effectively prevent the expansion of fatigue cracks, so it has good fatigue resistance. Generally, the tensile strength of metal materials is 40%-50%, while reinforced fibers can reach 70%-80%. This gives the yacht made of composite panels a long service life.
